For more than twenty years, Debbie and Jon Michaels have explored a variety of creative activities, investigating different media and processes, both individually and together. We share a profound interest in how artistic, creative, and imaginative processes can aid our understanding of the world around us, our place within it, and ourselves.
With a background in interior design followed by clinical and academic art psychotherapy, Debbie’s focus is directed towards the emotional landscape, the relation between internal and external worlds, and the unspoken narratives that may be elucidated through creative processes. Jon, with his background in vascular surgery and healthcare research, is fascinated by the way that complementary artistic and scientific processes can contribute to shared knowledge.
Fundamental to both our approaches is a belief that it is through recognising and embracing the differences and conflicts between a variety of practical and theoretical perspectives, that new understandings can emerge. Together we have come to understand the importance of inclusiveness, interdisciplinarity, and open dialogue between those with diverse backgrounds and philosophies.
